Not much is known about Mr. Universe other than that he graduated from the Orion Flight Academy, along side Hoban 'Wash' Washburn, top of his class.

After graduation he seemed to vanish off the radar and never tested his
flight skills out in the 'verse. This is because he never even learned to
fly -- he just used his impressive hacking skills to reach the top
position in the academy. Upon his deceit being discovered by Wash, who was the academy's best pilot, the man found himself in a compromise. Wash ultimately kept Mr. Universe's secret in exchange for the promise of
information exchange, in the future.

Since then Mr. Universe has found himself a home on a moon surrounded by high ion clouds that serve as a perfect breaker for his illegal activites.
