With the posting of the banner for this new episode, I thought I'd open up a forum on it, so the speculation can begin. And of course, when you finish reading this episode, feel free to comment on it here.

"The Road to Damascus" goes live April 12th, 2006!

If you go to the links page on the website, there is a link to the Firefly tvs LiveJournal, where you can see the banner. Smile

Sorry, about the delay -- I've now added the banner to the main page, as well. Smile I forget not everyone watches the LJ. Smile

Just as an FYI - the Links page link from inside the stories is broken.

Goes to http://www.firefly-tvs.com/episodes/links.htm instead of http://www.firefly-tvs.com/links.htm

Okay, just got finished reading this episode - and I'll admit I was a bit worried at first.

Book's history had been shrouded in so much darkness for so long - there were so many people that had so many different opinions as to what / who he was before he became a Shepherd, I'm surprised y'all took on the chore of telling his story.

But I like how you did it.

Without getting too spoiler-y, I must say that the writing and story was excellent. It had me unsure right until the end what book would do, and I was surprised at my own reaction to his act. That is some good storytellin', folks. Smile

While I missed the rest of the crew (especially after the 4 week + 1 day Shocked absence), I really liked the episode. Took me some time to get into, but the writing was some of the best of the series so far (awesome job you guys, really), and I liked that there was more to "Book's" past than just him being Alliance. His characterization was right on, and his backstory seemed very plausible and interesting.

It's great having the series back! I'm already eagerly awaiting more.

I was worried about this episode, in the beginning. Even though I got to help out with the story plotting and much of the detail work, I worried. I just felt like maybe it was too big -- maybe we couldn't pull it off. I thought maybe it was too character-centric, and wouldn't flow right with most of the cast missing. I worried people wouldn't accept our fanon as "realistic," wouldn't like us "naming" Book or whatever.

I worried about it right up until I read through the rough draft. But Mich and Mike did some incredible writing and storytelling, and made it work. They managed to make an episode all about Book, and people (original characters!) he knew and loved and was connected with, and keep it intense and real. They eliminated most of our beloved crew, and yet kept the Firefly-feeling alive, and created new, fleshed out and interesting characters. I'm still not sure how they did it -- I know I couldn't have, if I'd tried to tackle this story.

Anyway, brilliant job, you guys. I'm awed and pleased. I can't see any other past story for Book than this, either. It just falls into place so neatly. If Joss ever gets around to REALLY explaining Book's backstory, I'll honestly be surprised if it isn't something similar to this. Smile It's a great backstory, and Book "lapsing" and killing Hodges is . . . well, a much better reason for him to leave Serenity than the paltry reason we were given in the comics. So, thanks for that, too. I really like Billy Hodges too. I didn't think I would, in the beginning, but I do. It's weird. I like Derrial a lot too. (I want Paul/Derrial fic now . . . and Paul/Billy, hahaha. I've never wanted Book fic like that before!)

I've always liked Book a lot, but this story makes me like him a lot more, which is incredible for a mere "fanfic." Fantasitic job. I can't wait to see what happens in 2x08 - Haven.

This was the first episode where I found myself quite confused. There were a few points where I didn't know what the hell was going on, or why. But eventually I picked up enough to figure out what should have been going on. As far as explaining Book's past and his motivations of the present, I thought it all worked out. I like what you guys came up with. And the last 3 or 4 pages are among the best written for this entire series so far.

I read the story on the night of it's return. and like a lot of people it was hard to gain the momentum in the story at first. I figured well enough on Paul and who he is...(trying to keep this spoiler free...how am i doing?) and i really enjoyed the meshing of previous events as actual time in the story progresses. I also thought how Book was involved with Serenity Valley was pretty nice and all that progressed after was really enthralling. It just fit soo well and I wasn't expecting it. It was just rough at first trying to gather all the info from the beginning but I really did like how the peices began to fit as the story moved forward. Really excited about reading the next one. maybe a lil wash backstory in the future hmmm. tell us about the planet of juggling geese...you know you wanna!!! haha.

seriously though....geese.
you all are great and this one was awesome. keep it up!!!!!!!!!!

Long time watcher, first time poster. Very Happy

I have to say I've enjoyed every piece so far, with my favorites to this point being "Mixed Nuts" and "Flying Blind", but this is the first time I've commented.

And I have to say, this is definitely one of the best Firefly fics I've read, period. Not only was it expertly written, but it was written about a seldomly seen character in fanfiction - one whose story was begging to be told. I salute you, guys. This was one heck of a story and I loved every bit of it. I loved the unusual way in which it was told, and I loved that it offered more than simple, easy to grasp answers.

I won't give it away for anyone who hasn't read it, but I honestly felt my heart break in a few spots. It made *sense.* It brought out Book, I feel, in a way that truly tied the plots together, and I thank you for it. It's the only fanfiction piece I've seen that's done Book's history justice - and like Van said, it brings the show, the comics and the movie together flawlessly. Ahh, if only we'd seen this in the show.

If only.

Bravo. Bravo.

Great episode. I was a little confused at first, but
I quickly found my way out of the darkness. I didn't like the usage of the word "fuck" though. Seemed to much is all. First time I read an episode with something I didn't like. But all in all I was glued to the screen. Great job ladies n gents.

Everything so far has been in keeping with the world and, more importantly, the characters of the show.
I've read all the episodes so far since I stumbled onto the site last night and it's the first fanfic I've ever found myself laughing out loud at - needless to say I'm hooked! Laughing

Seriously, thank you so much for doing this guys!
